Highway gantry advertising in Malaysia
The gantry sits above the road, square-on to every lane. It is the highest-volume outdoor format in the country — and the least forgiving of a busy advert.
What a gantry actually is
A gantry — jejantas in Malay — is an overhead structure spanning the carriageway, usually carrying a large digital screen facing oncoming traffic. Unlike a roadside billboard angled across the shoulder, a gantry screen is directly in the driver's line of sight, centred on the road they are already looking down.
That geometry is the whole proposition. Roadside sites compete with the road for attention. A gantry is in front of it.
Why it delivers the biggest numbers
- Every lane sees it. A roadside site favours the nearest lane; a gantry faces all of them equally.
- Commuter frequency. Major corridors carry substantially the same drivers twice a day, five days a week. Repetition builds without buying more inventory.
- Congestion is an asset. On a highway that reliably slows at peak, dwell time goes up exactly when the most people are present — the opposite of how congestion works for everything else.
The corridors that matter
Volume in the Klang Valley concentrates on the routes feeding Kuala Lumpur from the west and south — the Federal Highway, the Subang and Petaling Jaya approaches, the NKVE, the LDP and the Sungai Besi corridor. Outside the Klang Valley, the meaningful gantry audiences sit on the north–south approaches into Penang and around the Johor Bahru causeway and Iskandar corridor, where cross-border traffic adds a distinct audience.
Advin does not own screens. We work through selected media-owner and operator partners, so which gantries are available, at what rate, and on what dates is confirmed with the relevant partner before anything reaches your proposal. Current options are in the media deck rather than published here, because availability and rates move.
Creative rules at eighty kilometres an hour
A gantry gives you a driver's attention for a couple of seconds, once, while they are doing something else. Treat that as the brief, not as a constraint to work around.
- One idea. Not a headline plus a subhead plus three benefits.
- Six words or fewer is a good discipline. Brand plus one proposition.
- High contrast, large type. Thin fonts and mid-tone colours disappear in daylight glare.
- No URLs, no phone numbers, no QR codes. Nobody is scanning anything at speed. Drive search instead: make the brand name memorable enough to be typed later.
- Brand visible in the first half-second, in case that is all you get.
Practical points before booking
- Confirm the direction of travel the screen faces — morning inbound and evening outbound are different audiences with different mindsets.
- Ask whether the site is single- or double-sided, and whether your rate covers one face or both.
- Check slot and loop structure, as with any digital site — see LED screen advertising for how loops work.
- Confirm operating hours; illumination after dark is where a share of the value sits.
- Allow for approval lead time. Gantry sites are permitted structures and artwork approval is not instant.

What is a highway gantry advertisement?
An advert on a large digital screen mounted on an overhead structure that spans the carriageway, known in Malay as a jejantas. Because the screen faces oncoming traffic square-on rather than from the roadside, it is in the driver's natural line of sight and is seen equally from every lane.
Which highways in Malaysia carry gantry advertising?
The highest-volume corridors are the routes feeding Kuala Lumpur from the west and south, including the Federal Highway, the Subang and Petaling Jaya approaches, the NKVE, the LDP and the Sungai Besi corridor. There is also meaningful gantry inventory on the approaches into Penang and around the Johor Bahru causeway and Iskandar corridor.
Is highway gantry advertising more expensive than a roadside billboard?
Generally yes, because the audience volumes are larger and the sites are fewer. Whether it is better value depends on your objective: gantries are strong for mass-reach awareness, while a well-chosen city or indoor site can deliver a more relevant audience for less if you are targeting a specific district or profile.
How many words should a highway gantry advert have?
As few as possible, and six or fewer is a good working limit. A driver sees the screen for roughly two seconds at speed while concentrating on the road. One idea, high contrast, large type, brand visible immediately, and no URLs, phone numbers or QR codes.
Can I book a highway gantry for a short campaign?
Digital gantry sites commonly accept short flights, including week-long bookings, and day bookings on some sites. Availability on the strongest corridors is tighter than on secondary sites, so short-notice booking is easier outside peak retail periods.
Which corridor, and when?
Send the market, dates and budget range. You get current gantry options with availability confirmed.
